5 Hard Questions Leaders Avoid During Planning

Being a human-centric leader requires you to look in the mirror and ask yourself some tough questions, especially as you plan for a successful 2024.

Hard truth: It feels nicer to tolerate mediocrity on your team. Unfortunately, tolerating mediocrity isn’t the right thing for your business or the kind thing to do for your people. Allowing mediocrity to linger will result in two things: (1) disengaged & even resentful top performers and (2) unhappy & even dejected underperformers.

I reached out to my HRBP network & compiled a list of 5 tough reflection questions we wish more leaders would ask themselves. Get that mirror out! 🪩

  1. Is there anyone on my team who could be more successful in a different role (in our company or outside of it)?

  2. Have the needs of my team or the company outgrown anyone on my team?

  3. Is there anyone with impressive talents that are being wasted doing repetitive tasks because the work just needs to get done?

  4. Is there a top performer on my team with a high ceiling who, if I free up space, could pull the future in faster or build something new?

  5. How can we simplify & organize our team to increase productivity and create more space for creativity & innovation in 2024?

So, is tolerating mediocrity the human thing to do? Or is it just easier for you?
