3 Ways Human-centric Leaders Prepare for the Unexpected
I’m not a good surfer.
Picture this – salt water up the nose, barely able to paddle past the whitewash, and the heroic quest of even catching a wave.
Yet I find myself addicted - even if it means paddling into very cold, shark invested waters (sorry, Mom) & getting humbled.
Why willingly endure this cold & painful circus?
Surfing requires skill, planning, and the ability to execute calmly in chaos.
When the cadence comes together just right, and you’re riding a perfect wave, it’s THE BEST feeling. Like you could do anything.
The ability to slow down & find zen in effortless execution — I’ve found lots of ways to apply the principles of surfing while building Rise.
As human-centric leaders, there are 3 simple things we can do to inspire, motivate, set the right tone, and prepare for the inevitable.
Prepare for the unexpected. Just like the ocean's unpredictability, leaders need to be ready to navigate unpredictable shifting priorities. Invest in your frontline managers & their change management skillset so they’re equipped to guide their teams.
Calm, clean execution. Amidst chaos or office drama, keep your cool. Ruthlessly organize your operations & communication, so when everything else is spinning, your team knows the drill. Execute like an action hero.
Find zen & balance. “Do less.” (iconic 😆) But all jokes aside, invest in a few simple tools that drive alignment & clarity across your team.
You can't control the ocean, but you can learn to ride a wave.
